Mr. McCrindle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many people are employed in the fishing industry who are solely involved in disputed waters around Iceland.

Mr. Bishop

Vessels and crews are not regularly occupied on any one fishing ground and, as far as can be ascertained, no people employed in the fishing industry are solely involved in disputed waters around Iceland.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what percentage of the turnover of the British fish- ing industry is attributable to fishing in disputed waters around Iceland.

Mr. Bishop

The first-hand value of the catch taken by British vessels in waters around Iceland in 1974–75 was about 16 per cent. of the value of total first-hand sales of United Kingdom fish landings. Cod caught around Iceland accounted for over 30 per cent. of United Kingdom landings of cod in 1974–75.
