HC Deb 02 February 1976 vol 904 c460W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will list the main increases in which it is hoped to expand trade with Brazil, including the supply of defence equipment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Deakins

Despite the economic measures introduced by Brazil in December 1975 to restrain and substitute imports it is hoped that the intensification of our efforts both here and in Brazil, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding last October, will result in increased participation by the United Kingdom in Brazil's developmental projects in such sectors as railways, steel, electrical power, shipbuilding and the development of ports and natural resources. It is not Her Majesty's Government's practice to provide details of prospective defence equipment sales.
