asked Her Majesty's Government:

When work is to start on the Gosforth (Tyne and Wear) by-pass connecting with the Al which has passed all planning procedures and which was given priority many months ago.

My right honourable friend has no plans for building a Gosforth by-pass. An order for the de-trunking of the Al through Gosforth was published on 24th September 1976. If the statutory procedures are satisfactorily completed, decisions on the future of the by-pass project will be for the county council as highway authority.
