The Earl of CORK and ORRERY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the Cobham-Esher by-pass on the London-Portsmouth road (A3) is expected to be opened to traffic; what is the expected total cost; and how this compares with the originally accepted estimate.

Baroness BIRK

The Esher by-pass was opened to traffic on 15th December. The estimated total cost at mid-1974 prices, when the contract was let, was about £13. 5 million. The final cost is not yet known but is expected to be about £19 million at current prices.
