Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what courses of instruction were followed by the four officers who were seconded for specialist training at Fort Bragg, United States.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Officers were sent to the United States Army Institute for Military Assistance at Fort Bragg to attend a 3½-month course which covered the following subjects: (1) Social psychology—sociological, cultural, political, economic, educational and demographic factors which influence social attitudes; (2) Basic economics; (3) Audience research methods—mainly statistical analysis; (4) propaganda—communications and the media generally, propaganda themes and techniques; (5) The propaganda threat—examples of psychological warfare techniques used against the West.

Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish in the Official Report details of the courses of instruction followed by the four commissioned officers who were seconded to Fort Bragg, USA, for specialist training.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

I would refer my hon. Friend to the previous reply which I gave him.
