HC Deb 21 December 1976 vol 923 cc155-6W
24. Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what measures have been taken by his Department to reduce the level of unemployment in the South-West Assisted Area, particularly in respect of the building and construction industries.

Mr. Golding

The South-West Assisted Area has benefited from the measures the Government have taken to alleviate the worst effects of unemployment. These include the job creation and work experience schemes, the temporary employment subsidy, and the recruitment subsidy and youth employment subsidy schemes.

General responsibility for the construction industry rests with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment.
