HC Deb 21 December 1976 vol 923 c153W
10. Mr Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what action he is taking to reduce unemployment in the North-West Region.

Mr. Golding

My Department has introduced a number of special measures to alleviate unemployment. These measures include the temporary employment subsidy which has saved more jobs in the North-West than in any other region; the Job Creation Programme, the youth employment subsidy and the work experience scheme which together have assisted 55,100 people in the North-West. Additionally in the North-West good progress is being made towards achieving the 1976 target of 13,000 people to be trained under the Training Opportunities Scheme. Moreover, from 3rd January 1977 the job release scheme will operate in the North-West Region.
