HL Deb 21 December 1976 vol 378 c1290WA
Lord BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether their attention has been drawn to the reported disorders in New Zealand caused by immigrants from its Pacific Islands whence easy entry policy exists; and whether exchanges of information contribute to police activities here to deal with lawlessness in the United Kingdom arising from easy illegal entry by non-British holders of papers or passports permitting entry into the United Kingdom.

The MINISTER of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Harris of Greenwich)

The answer to the first part of the Question is, No. Without accepting the assumptions made in the second part, I can assure the noble Lord that the Immigration Service and the police exchange relevant information, and collaborate closely with the authorities in other countries, both with the object of countering illegal entry into the United Kingdom, and where necessary as part of the general responsibility of the police for the prevention and detection of crime.
