HC Deb 20 December 1976 vol 923 cc43-4W
Mr. Mates

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in how many cases compensation has been paid to the relatives of persons shot dead by the security forces; and what is the total amount involved.

Mr. Concannon

The payment of criminal injuries compensation, under Section 1(3) of the Criminal Injuries to Persons (Compensation) Act (Northern Ireland) 1968, is dependent on whether a criminal act has been committed; and it is for the court to so determine.

The information for which the hon. Member asks is not readily available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost and effort.
