§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what information he has about the health and welfare of Mr. Roy Elliott, a British subject held in prison in Jeddah by the authorities of Saudi Arabia; what consular visits have been made to Mr. Elliott; what charges, if any, have been preferred against him; and when they will be heard.
§ Dr. OwenI am pleased to inform my hon. Friend that Mr. Elliott was released from prison on 14th December. No charges were preferred against him. The consul liaised closely with Mr. Elliott's employers throughout the period of his detention. He was fully satisfied as to the adequacy of his legal representation and of his health and general welfare. He did not personally visit Mr. Elliott in prison.
