§ Mr. Geraint Morganasked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will give favourable consideration to recommending the introduction of legislation to amend the Local Government Act 1972 so as to extend from six months to two years the period during which a casual vacancy on a community council may remain unfilled, in view of the disproportionate cost involved in holding contested elections to such vacancies.
§ Mr. JohnI have been asked to reply.
The present arrangements could be altered by amending the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1973, but I have no evidence of general support for such a change.
