HC Deb 13 December 1976 vol 922 c490W
Mr. Woof

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what research he is instituting concerning the prospect of a re-emergence of a United Kingdom energy gap; what steps he is taking to develop the coal and nuclear power industries to prevent unnecessary depletion of United Kingdom oil and gas reserves; whether it is his policy to co-ordinate all the programmes of all sectors involved in the energy industry; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eadie

My Department keeps the prospects for United Kingdom energy supply and demand under continuing review in the light of the latest information as it becomes available. Our policy will develop from the basis provided by oil and gas production programmes, "Plan for Coal," the Government's energy conservation programme, the nuclear programme and work on other non-fossil sources. I intend that we should proceed in a co-ordinated way, using the best information available, and that we should take account of the views of all those concerned.
