HC Deb 13 December 1976 vol 922 c488W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if the men included in the various mine workers' redundancy schemes will benefit from the recent increase in social insurance benefits.

Mr. Eadie

Men who are currently in benefit under the Redundant Mineworkers Payments Scheme have their benefit increased in line with the increase in unemployment benefit. Where they are in receipt of sickness or injury benefit or special hardship allowance they also receive any general increases in these benefits.

Mr. Woof

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many miners left the coal mining industry in 1973, 1974 and 1975, respectively, and how many of those were affected by termination of employment.

Mr. Eadie

I am asking the Chairman of the National Coal Board to write to my hon. Friend with this information as soon as possible.
