The Attorney-General

Statistics relating to the number of cases set down for trial in the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court which are settled at the door of the court without prior notice or during the course of hearing are now collected on a routine basis.

Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Attorney-General how many and what percentage of cases due to be heard by industrial tribunals, county courts and high courts, respectively, are settled on the day of the hearing and before hearing commences; and how many and what percentage before the conclusion of the hearing.

The Attorney-General

During 1975, of 7,512 actions set down for trial in the Queen's Bench Division 495–6.5 per cent.—were settled at the door of the court and 256–3.4 per cent.—were settled during the course of the hearing. Statistics relating to the number of cases settled are not available for the other Divisions of the High Court, county courts or industrial tribunals.
