HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 cc326-7W
16. Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will introduce a scheme to compensate farmers in national parks for additional costs they incur in meeting the more stringent planning requirements on agricultural buildings.

Mr. Strang

Under our existing capital grant schemes grant may be given towards any extra costs incurred to conform with planning conditions. In addition, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment and my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales have promised legislation to enable national park authorities to provide discretionary grants in selected cases to farmers where compensation is not payable under the present arrangements.
