§ Mr. Gouldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether United Kingdom exports of manufactures are, at the current exchange rate, more or less price competitive than they were in 1953, 1963, 1968 and 1973.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonOur manufactured export prices have almost certainly been more competitive in recent weeks than in 1963 or 1968 and probably a little more competitive than on average in 1973. Information for 1953 is not available but in 1955 we were at about our present level of competitiveness.
§ Mr. Gouldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how United Kingdom-manufactured export prices in dollar terms at the latest available date compare with the latest prices charged by Germany, Japan, the USA, France and Italy.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonI refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave to a previous Question of his on 16th November.—[Vol. 919, c. 507–8.]
