HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 cc345-7W
Mr. Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many child benefit information slips CH 1(T) and envelopes have been issued to post offices; and how many have been requested by members of the public.

Mr. Orme

Twelve million copies of the child benefit information slip CH 1(T) A, the leaflet, CH 1(T) and envelope were issued to post offices. It is not possible without undue expenditure to

received in the Home Office—together with the numbers of cases in which the tribunal advised discharge and the Home Secretary's decision in those cases.

find out how many the public have taken up. The information slip CH 1(T)A is now being replaced by a new version CH 1(T)B and 3 million of these have been issued to post offices.

Mr. Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of leaflets to residents is used in the supply of the child benefit information slip CH 1(T) to post offices.

Mr. Orme

The Post Office distributed a total of 12 million copies of leaflet CH 1(T) on the basis of the number of subordinate post offices under the control of each head post office, no special account being taken of population numbers. I understand this is the usual method of distribution and it was also considered to be the most economic for a task of this size.
