Dickson MabonThe principal code of practice which covers the construction of the pipelines is the Submarine Pipelines Supplement to the Institute of Petroleum's Model Code of Safe Practice, Part 6. The minimum standards for welding are laid down in British Standard No. 4515. There is no code, as such, which covers operation of a submarine pipeline, but the operating manuals, by virtue of being necessarily based on the design of the pipeline, are consequently related to the code of practice referred to above.
