§ Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Defence how many civilian scientists have left his Department in the last two years; and how many of these posts were subsequently filled by Service personnel.
§ Dr. Gilbert1,056 civilian scientists have left the Ministry of Defence by retirement, resignation or dismissal in the last two years. Only a very small proportion were replaced by Service personnel. I will let the hon. and learned Gentleman have the exact number as soon as I can.
