HC Deb 02 December 1976 vol 921 c237W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many outbreaks of sheep scab were confirmed in Wales during the last 10 months; what were the corresponding figures for the last 10 years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Morris

There have been no outbreaks of sheep scab in Wales during the last 10 months. Total outbreaks for recent years in Wales are as follows: 1973–4; 1974–1; 1975–2. The last outbreaks in Wales prior to 1973 were in 1951.

It is too early to assess the full effect of the national compulsory dipping campaign which ended on 13th November. An assessment will be made in consultation with the Farmers' Unions.
