§ Dr. SummerskillOn 31st October 1976 the strength of the South Yorkshire Police was 2,604. Figures on 31st October 1971 were: Sheffield and Rotherham Constabulary, 1,184; Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham divisions of West Yorkshire Constabulary, 825. No separate figures are available for those parts of the Goole division which became part of South Yorkshire from 1st April 1974. Traffic personnel serving on the West Yorkshire divisions in 1971 were not recorded separately and are therefore not included in the figures given above.
