HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1075W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he intends to introduce legislation so that all tax refunds payable to married women are actually paid to them and not to their husbands.

Mr. Denzil Davies

In practice many married women who cease employment already themselves receive any repayment of tax deducted from their earnings, and the separate assessment provisions enable a married woman to receive a repayment of tax on her income, whether in employment or not. I have no plans for introducing legislation to go further than that.
