HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1181W
Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the averageper capita consumpton of water per day in England and Wales during the years 1926, 1930, 1945, 1950, 1960, 1965, 1970, and 1970 to 1976, inclusive.

Mr. Denis Howell

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Rother Valley (Mr. Hardy) on 14th July. In 1960 the average water consumption in England and Wales was approximately 220 litres per person per day. Estimates for 1950 and earlier years are unreliable. —[Vol. 915, cc 198–99.]
