§ Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will state the conditons that must be met by a person receiving or applying for unemployment pay in order to prove that he or she is available for work and, in particular, how long or short a time may elapse between notification of a possible job being sent to that person and his or her attendance at the employment exchange.
§ Mr. EnnalsI have been asked to reply.
The interpretation of the availability condition laid down in Section 17(1)(a)(i) of the Social Security Act 1975 and its application to individual cases is entirely a matter for the independent statutory authorities whose responsibility it is to adjudicate on claims.
