HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1150W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will state the conditons that must be met by a person receiving or applying for unemployment pay in order to prove that he or she is available for work and, in particular, how long or short a time may elapse between notification of a possible job being sent to that person and his or her attendance at the employment exchange.

Mr. Ennals

I have been asked to reply.

The interpretation of the availability condition laid down in Section 17(1)(a)(i) of the Social Security Act 1975 and its application to individual cases is entirely a matter for the independent statutory authorities whose responsibility it is to adjudicate on claims.
