§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what kind of specific 1197W services he plans for the future transport system.
§ Dr. GilbertI understand that my hon. Friend's interest is in the possibilities of new forms of public transport services, including forms of operation which would require modification of the road service licensing system. The consultative document on transport policy specifically asks for views on car sharing, dial-a-ride bus services and shared taxis. It would be premature at this stage in the consultation process to form conclusions about the ways of meeting transport problems in areas where conventional services prove insufficient. In the context of rural transport, the Department are now promoting a programme of experiments to examine ways of improving mobility for people in rural areas.
