§ Mr. Matesasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many members of the UDR, RUC and Regular Army, respectively, have been convicted of offences in Northern Ireland since 1st May 1973; what crime rate this represents for those forces; and how this compares with the crime rate for the Province as a whole.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesBetween 1st January and 30th June 1976 64 members of the RUC were convicted of 109 offences, mainly of a minor nature, by the civil courts. This represents a rate per annum of 6.66 convictions per thousand of the force. At the same time there were 81 offences per annum known to the police in Northern Ireland per thousand of the population.
