HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1177W
Mr. Clegg

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the present arrangements for dealing with road accidents occurring to tankers carrying dangerous substances.

Dr. Gilbert

The number of accidents is small and the arrangements for dealing with them appear to be working well. Following discussions I have had with the Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission, the commission has recently announced that new regulations are being prepared under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 designed to tighten still further the controls on the conveyance of hazardous substances by road.
