§ Mr. Cyril Smithasked the Lord President of the Council (1) what was the total cost of the visits to Paris, The Hague and Bonn by the Chairman of the House of Commons Refreshment Department Committee of Inquiry on 30th March, 31st March and 1st April 1976;
(2) what mode and class of travel was employed for the visits of the House of Commons Refreshment Department Committee of Inquiry; and at what cost;
(3) at which hotels the Chairman of the House of Commons Refreshment Committee of Inquiry stayed on the visits; and at what cost;
(4) what incidental expenses were incurred on the visits of the House of Commons Committee of Inquiry;
(5) which catering establishments were visited by the Chairman of the House of Commons Refreshment Department Committee of Inquiry; what proportion of his time in Paris, Bonn and The Hague was spent in such establishments, or in discussions involved with them; to what conclusions the Chairman of the Committee of Inquiry arrived as a result of his visits; and if these conclusions are to be published.
§ Mr. FootThe Report of the Committee of Inquiry chaired by my hon. Friend1086W the Member for Bethnal Green and Bow (Mr. Mikardo) was published on 21st July as House of Commons Paper 505. The recommendations of the Committee are contained in Chapter 5 of the Report and the catering establishments visited are listed in its Appendices H and J. The visits to Paris, The Hague, and Bonn took place on 30th March, 31st March and 1st April respectively. They were undertaken by the Chairman of the Committee, one member of the Committee and the Secretary to the Committee. The total cost to public funds was £950 of which £397 was for air travel and £553 for hotel accommodation, other transport and incidental expenses. First class travel was used where available.
