HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1089W
Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate, expressed as a percentage of the whole, of the consumption of oil by industry, civil aviation, public transport, and private motoring, respectively.

Mr. Benn

Details of inland deliveries of petroleum products used as fuels are given in Tables 45 and 47 of the 1975 Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics available in the Library of the House. Details for 1975, which will shortly be published in the 1976 edition, show that approximately 27 per cent. is used by industry, excluding the fuel industries, 5 per cent. for air transport, including military use, 2½ per cent. for public transport, including railways, and 17 per cent. is used in cars and motor cycles, about three-quarters of which is estimated to be used for private transport.
