HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 c1188W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what effect Government proposals for cuts in public expenditure will have on the number of houses built in new towns over the next two years.

Mr. John Silkin

There will be some slowing down in the rate of new house-building in new towns, but it is not yet possible to say what this will mean in terms of numbers Priority will be given to housing which will meet the needs of areas of housing stress, or which will meet needs related to industrial investment.
