HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 cc1139-40W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether it is still the case that work permits for resident domestic workers in the hotel and catering industry are not available to single men but are available to single women.

Mr. John Grant

This restriction has now been lifted. Male workers from overseas are eligible for work permits as resident domestic workers in the hotel and catering industry on the same conditions as female workers from overseas. This was already the case for resident domestic work in other services. The change will not affect the numbers of overseas workers allowed into the country as resident domestics.
