§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) whether he will give the actual salary and expenses drawn or claimed by Sir Mark Henig, the Chairman of the English Tourist Board, for the latest stated financial year;
(2) whether he will instruct or advise the English Tourist Board to include in its annual statement of accounts the detailed amounts of moneys paid in salaries and expenses to staff, including that of the chairman and members of the board.
§ Mr. MeacherThe board's annual accounts show the total cost for both board members and staff of salaries and of travel, which includes subsistence expenses, in each year. The individual salaries of the chairman and members of the board are set out in the Directory of Paid Public Appointments, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House. The publication of a breakdown of expenses paid to individuals, with which I am in principle sympathetic, raises practical difficulties which I am considering.
