HC Deb 06 August 1976 vol 916 cc1186-7W
Mr. Fairbairn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he proposes to take to ensure transaction of cherished transfers in view of the action of civil servants at Swansea; and if he will dismiss those who refuse to do that work.

Mr. Norman Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the refusal of some staff in his Department employed at Swansea to transfer cherished number plates; and what action he proposes to take.

Dr. Gilbert

The Department is engaged in discussions with the trade unions concerned in the current ban on the processing of cherished transfers. The provisions in Section 12 of the Finance Act 1976 will, I believe, provide a reasonable solution.
