asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is now his proposed target for unemployment by 1979 in view of recent expenditure cuts.

It remains my aim to reduce unemployment to 3 per cent. by 1979. This will require a major improvement in our industrial performance, and this is the object of our industrial strategy.
