§ Dr. GilbertThe reductions in public expenditure in 1977–78 announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer included £75 million of roads and related expenditure in England. I am discussing with the local authorities' associations the effect of these cuts on expenditure on local roads. So far as reductions in expenditure on trunk roads and motorways are concerned, I am making a detailed statement in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Consett (Mr. Watkins) today.
