HC Deb 03 August 1976 vol 916 c745W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what consultations the Department of Manpower Services in Northern Ireland has had with career officers about the availability of jobs for school leavers.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Careers officers are employed by the Department of Manpower Services and work within the framework of the Employment Service which covers all ages. Careers Officers pay particular attention to the needs of young people seeking work, and have been active in implementing the Government's recent initiatives to ameliorate the worst effects of unemployment among this group. A substantial proportion of careers officers' time is devoted to identifying suitable vacancies for young people.
