§ Mr. Ronald Atkinsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what the effect of compliance with EEC on road haulage will cost the industry; and whether he will continue to grant financial assistance to rail freight services until the new competitive position arising from the extra road haulage costs is known.
§ Dr. GilbertCompliance with the EEC requirements in their present form would impose substantial costs. The amount would depend on the outcome of current Community discussions to amend some of those requirements. On timing I have nothing to add to the reply I gave to my hon.
