§ Mr. Tom Kingasked the Secretary of State for Industry what are the figures for postal traffic for the latest month for which figures are available, together with the figures for the equivalent month in the previous year; and what proportion of mail was sent by first-class and second-class for the month in question and for the corresponding month of the previous year.
Mr. Les HttckfieldThe collection and publication of postal traffic figures is a matter for the Post Office. It produces722W traffic statistics for internal management control purposes, but I am advised that they are not designed for general publication. I am sorry that my earlier reply to the hon. Member on 29th June—[Vol. 914, c. 107]—did not make this clear.
