§ Mrs. Millie Millerasked the Prime Minister what steps he is taking to coordinate departmental activities, bearing in mind Her Majesty's Government's commitment to the United Nations International Decade for Women; and how he proposes to deal with the report from the ILO on the serious effects on working women of the economic recession.
§ The Prime MinisterAll Departments are aware that it is the Government's policy to eliminate discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity between men and women. The Departments principally concerned are in regular and close contact, and I see no need to set up special machinery to co-ordinate their activities. The effect of the economic recession on both working men and women is a matter of continuing concern to the Government. My right hon. 673W Friend the Secretary of State for Employment is making a statement today about the Government's further measures, which are particularly directed towards the provision of jobs for young people.
