HC Deb 03 August 1976 vol 916 cc653-4W
Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the hon. Member for Kingswood (Mr. Walker) as representing the Church Estate Commissioners, if he will make a statement on the progress of the disposal of the Hampstead Estate; and when he expects completion to take place.

Mr. Terry Walker

I am glad to report that contracts have now been exchanged for the sale of 57 houses and four blocks of flats on the Commissioner's Hampstead Estate to a company formed expressly by the tenants for the purpose of purchasing them. Completion is timed for the end of September. The Commissioners would wish to express their satisfaction that it has proved practicable in this instance for their tenants to become the owners of the homes in which many of them have lived for so long. They would also wish to pay tribute to the great efforts made over the last months by the tenants' representatives, their advisers and their financial supporters to overcome the formidable financial and administrative problems involved in bringing this transaction to a successful conclusion.
