asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will take into account increased wages or changed financial circumstances when awarding family income supplementary benefit, so that benefit can be reduced within a yearly period if wage income increases.

Mr. Orme

No. This scheme is deliberately simple, and apart from disproportionately increasing administrative costs and the number of staff required to operate it, the change suggested would cause the poverty trap to operate in practice.
