Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many civil servants in the following grades are located in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff, respectively; permanent secretary, deputy secretary, under-secretary, assistant secretary, senior principal, principal, senior executive officer, higher executive officer (A), higher executive officer, administrative trainee and executive officer.

,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 19th July 1976; Vol. 915, c.329–30],gave the following information:

Detailed information of this kind is not at present available from central records. It is, however, known that, for the Home Civil Service, there are 42 permanent secretaries and 129 deputy secretaries in London, one permanent secretary and eight deputy secretaries in Edinburgh and one permanent secretary and one deputy secretary in Cardiff. The further information sought could not be obtained except at disproportionate cost.
