HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 cc651-2W
Mr. Gow

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what price is to be paid by the Property Services Agency for the Temple of Peace and Health in Cardiff; whether that was the price fixed by the district valuer; and what is his estimate of the total expenditure of public funds on the Temple of Peace and Health during the current financial year and during the year ending 5th April 1978.

Mr. Armstrong

The Temple of Peace is already owned by the Secretary of State for Wales, but about one-quarter of it is held on a 999 year lease by the United Nations Association (Wales). The property services agency is negotiating for a sublease of some of the UNA accommodation, but until negotiations are concluded it is not possible to give a figure for the rent. The district valuer is involved in the negotiations. Subject to a satisfactory outcome of these negotiations, expenditure on necessary alterations to the temple is estimated at approximately £300,000 during the current financial year and approximately £1,100,000 in 1977–78 financial year.
