HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 cc561-2W
Mr. Ifor Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what response has been made to the appeal of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for help to resettle refugees in Argentina, mainly Chileans.

Mr. Tomlinson

On 22nd June the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees appealed to 34 governments for resettlement opportunities for a minimum of 1,000 refugees, mainly Chileans, in Argentina who were considered to be in special danger. In response to this request, Her Majesty's Government informed the High Commissioner of their decision to accept into the United Kingdom up to 75 refugee families, to be put forward by the High Commissioner as being in exceptional danger.
