HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 c613W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when payment of the mobility allowance to disabled people over the age of 50 years will begin.

Mr. Alfred Morris

We have recently announced that disabled children aged 11 to 14 will be able to claim from 25th August for payment from 24th November. This will mean that people aged between 11 and 50 are eligible for the allowance. We shall be extending the allowance to children over 5 as soon as possible and then, by further stages, to people aged between 51 and pension age. I cannot at present forecast when particular further age groups will be brought in but we hope to complete the phasing in programme during 1979.
