§ Mr. Higginsasked the Secretary of State for Trade what restrictions are placed on the importing of United States films and other television programme material into the United Kingdom; and what limitations, if any, are placed on the transmission of such material on British television.
§ Mr. JohnI have been asked to reply.
On the first part of the hon. Member's Question, no restrictions are placed on the importing of this material. As to the transmission of such material on television, the Independent Broadcasting Authority's statutory duty is to satisfy itself that the programmes it broadcasts include proper proportions of material of British origin and performance. The BBC acknowledges a similar obligation.
