§ Mr. Nottasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will estimate the total effect on employment and unemployment of the measures announced on 22nd July.
§ Mr. Denzil DaviesAs my right hon. Friend said in his Statement, he expects that the measures may have reduced the fall in unemployment by about 60,000 in early 1978. I estimate that the effect on employment at that time will be 8090,000. No estimate has been made of the longer-run effects of the measures, since the public expenditure decisions refer only to 1977–78.
