HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 c538W
Sir W. Elliott

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will seek powers to make regulations governing the production of burglar alarms; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

Requirements for the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of intruder alarm systems in buildings are already specified in British Standard 4737: 1971. The National Supervisory Council for Intruder Alarms requires its members to comply with the standard. I understand that a revised standard is being prepared. We see no need for powers to make regulations.
