HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 c510W
26. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether she will cause an investigation to be made to ascertain how and why banks were allowed to increase their charges to their customers in view of their recently announced increased profits compared with last year.

Mr. Maclennan

Recent rises in bank charges have been examined by the Price Commission and found to be justified in the light of increased costs of non-interest business.
