§ 28. Mr. John H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps he will take, following the publication of Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the Regional Airport Strategy for Great Britain, to have discussions within the EEC and the Commission to fit in with the European Transport Policy in so far as it concerns national aviation authorities, airport authorities, and airlines, with a view to bringing down air fares to the level charged in the United States of America.
§ Mr. Cilton DavisAir fares are under discussion in a number of international628W fora and accordingly no initiative in this area on my part is called for.
§ Mr. Dykesasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will initiate discussions with his opposite numbers in the other member States of the European Economic Community on the establishment of an EEC international air fares network, which would end the treatment of intra-EEC internal air journeys as foreign transit liable to IATA agreement on fare levels.
§ Mr. Clinton DavisI refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave today to the hon. Member for Sheffield, Hallam (Mr. Osborn). The proposal to treat air journeys between member States of the EEC as if they were domestic services would raise complex political and legal issues.
